The summer season started last weekend. The outdoor courts have been open for some time and we are already seeing a lot of play, weather permitting. We will start the season with the opening tournament on April 27th and then the Interclub season will begin. This year we are entering 2 new teams: Ladies Active, 1st league and Men 35+, 3rd league. In the week of Pentecost, the traditional and always well-attended open Pentecost tournament takes place on our courts. Also in April, the morning doubles havel started under the new management of Otti. We wish all active players a successful and injury-free season.
On March 8th, 2024 the Annual General Meeting 2024 took place.
The actions of the Executive Board were approved and the cash report was accepted. The gaps in the Board team were filled. Julia Maier is new to the team as a replacement for our long-standing actuary Karin Widmer, who was given a ceremonial farewell after 7 years on the board. In addition, Andrew Wilson was elected as a new member of the board for training and juniors and Daniel Fontaine as support for match management.
Among other things, the renovation of court 9/10 was discussed. A feasibility study for the construction of a new hall was approved by a narrow majority. If we come to the conclusion that a indoor court project can be implemented, a plan will be drawn up that can be voted on at the AGM2025. However, if the feasibility study concludes that a indoor court cannot be built, the renovation of courts 9 and 10 will be started in the second half of the year.
This year we have 3 Junior JIC teams and 13 IC teams at the start. One women's, all age 1st league and one men's, 35+ 3rd league are new to the game and close the gaps we had. We expect many exciting matches and wish you lots of fun and success when you represent our colors. Please support your captains by making sure that everyone who plays in a team has enough players available. Those who take "time off" can only do so if there are replacements. It can't be up to the captain to find a replacement.
We have chosen a new team outfit (unfortunately the old one is no longer available), which will be worn by our teams over the next few years. In general, all new players will receive one short and two shirts in the new colors sponsored by the club. Orders for are reported by your captain with size details to the match manager, who will bundle the orders. Anyone who has already received a previous outfit will not receive a new one this year. However, if you would like to wear a uniform with your team, you can purchase the new shirts with the club logo and shorts for those not entitled. Orders should be placed with your captain or the match manager. Please note that it is already mid-April and the new shirts will probably not be available for the first match.
In order to support our younger players, the club will also subsidize a few hours of professional training for our junior teams and the active ladies.
Coaching, Kids Summercamp
You can also benefit from a comprehensive training program this year. As every year, Tobias will be giving his group courses and Fiana, Aman and Ivan from the Plüss and Kaufmann tennis school will be offering individual and small group training. The descriptions and registration forms can be found in the appendix and also on the website under the category Training.
The Kids Summer Camp will also take place again this year in August. The registration form is also enclosed.
Saison Opening Tournament
Saturday, April 27th, 2024
The season-opening Grümpeli is a fun tournament for everyone, whether young or young at heart, beginner or advanced. You don't need a players license, just enjoy playing and have an interest in socializing.
5 rounds at 30 minutes are played, preferably with different combinations. There will be coffee and cake in between and an Apéro will be offered by TCN Basel at the end. Registration for the tournament is obligatory.
The tournament will take place in all weathers. However, in bad weather the playing time is limited, but more time is planned for coffee and cake.
Whitsuncup 2024
Our traditional open Whitsun tournament will take place again this year during Pentecost week. We are expecting over 100 participants who will compete for the tournament winner in the various age and performance categories. If you would like to take part, you can register here Pfingstcup Anmeldung (log into our website www.tcnovartis.ch first) or register at Swiss Tennis under Tournaments Novartis Pfingstcup. Our tournament director Pascal Scholler is in charge of the tournament. You can reach him via this e-mail address turnier@tcnovartis.ch. Our special thanks go to the team of helpers, without whom we could not organize such a tournament.
Lights off, please!
Thanks to our floodlights, we can also play outside in the evening. Unfortunately, people often forget to switch off the lights after the game. Tie a knot in your racket so that you don't forget. And if you see lighted, empty courts, please go to the recreation room in the basement and switch off the lights on the console.
No Waste, my taste.
Ballmaschine
The ball machine has been moved back outside (court 7). And not only that, it was also completely overhauled. The throwing wheels were completely worn out and a gear wheel in the height adjustment was broken due to strong mechanical impact, which meant that the height adjustment no longer worked. Now it's back to its "old self" and you can use it again.
We have also decided to purchase a second ball machine. This will ensure that there is no downtime in the event of a breakdown and that you can train regularly with the machine.
Membership fees, Lockers and Players license fees
Important!
This year we did not invoice the license fees with the membership fee invoice. For this reason, all those who have a license will soon receive an invoice. We ask for prompt payment.
And speaking of invoices ...
The invoices for membership fees and boxes were sent out before Christmas. Many thanks to everyone who payed their 2024 annual fee on time. At the end of January, reminders were sent out for late payers and at the end of February we deactivated them in GotCourts. Since then they are only allowed to play on our courts as guests. This remains until the 2024 annual fee has been paid. As of today, however, a very large number (90+) are still overdue. We interprete this as silent termination of membership and will physically terminate membership for defaulting members at the end of June. Please note: Membership must then be reapplied for. A application fee will be charged and external members that re-apply will go on the waiting list.
"I haven't received anything (no invoice/reminder)". This is the most common reason given. Our communication comes by e-mail via info@tcnovartis.ch. We know via an error message if an e-mail does not arrive at your provider and follow it up. Your e-mail may have ended up in spam or it may simply have been overlooked. In this case, it helps to check your spam or mailbox for info@tcnovartis.ch. What you can do at any time, however, is log into our website www.tcnovartis.ch and click on your name at the top right and under the heading "Invoices" you will find all your outstanding invoices.
You'll be doing us a big favor and saving us a lot of unnecessary work if you pay on time and take care of it proactively.
